NSARA Summer Picnic 2010

  The Nova Scotia Amateur Radio
Association ( NSARA) Annual Summer
Picnic was held on Saturday, August 21st.
2010 at the summer cottage of Brad
(VE1ZX) and Abbie (VE1BFB) Ross in
Two Islands, NS and assisted by the
Westcumb Amateur Radio Club (WARC).

After some overnight rain, the day started
as a spectacular morning and remained so
all day long with wall to wall sunshine, low
humidity and low 20s temps - a perfect
summer day!

  Guests began to arrive about 10 am and
continued to arrive until near noon when the
BBQs were fired up and hamburgers and
hot dogs were cooked up by Mike, VE1XDT
and Jim, VE1CHI for just over fifty people.

  Once everyone had their fill of food,
some serious chin-wagging took place and
everyone seemed to be having a great time.

  Brad called for the Fox Hunt (hidden
transmitter) to begin as he had just slipped
away and hidden it. Most if not all 'hunters'
started away on foot and after some time,
Brad announced on the simplex frequency
that all would need vehicles and that the
elusive 'fox' was about a mile away and not
on the cottage road!

  Several teams drove away in cars but
still no one had luck in locating it until Brad
came up in the area on his four-wheeler to
announce that we were close. After a few
hints, we all went up the hill and Brian,
VE1RCF was first to find the 'Fox'
followed by Barry, VE1TRI and his team
and then Rick, VE9RWS was the third
person to find it. It was WELL HIDDEN!

  As I was out hunting the 'Fox', I cannot
report what was going on back at the
cottage with the others. 50-50 Tickets
were sold by Bob, VE1EDP and Shirley
Cohoon, VE1JFG won the prize money. The
dual band handheld transceiver was won by
Rob MacDonald, VY2ROB.

  Thanks go to Abbie and Brad Ross for
hosting the annual NSARA Summer Picnic
and to the members of the WARC who
assisted them with it.

  I will attempt to amend this report with
the remaining facts and additional photos
as I receive them so please drop back a bit
